Today marks the third anniversary of my mom's death. Dixie belonged to my mom, she was her dog. Even though my mom isn't here to love on her first grandbaby, her dog can. And Dixie has done a great job of loving Anneliese. I miss my mom more than I can express in words so it has brought me so much joy to see these two together. They've been buddies since we brought Anneliese home from the hospital. Here are just a few of the pictures I have gotten of them together this past year.

Our dogs have never been to the beach before, but now that we live on an island it's inevitable that they're going to go. This past weekend we took them. I was hoping that they would like it so I could take one of them with me for company if I ever wanted to go by myself, they had a great time and now that it's just Angelina and Dixie I can handle them both on my own. This was Milton's first and last time seeing a beach. He already wasn't feeling great at this point but he still had a great time and I'm really grateful for the time we had together.

Can you believe we live here now!? It's been nearly a month and I still can't believe it.
So many smells and sights. Angelina is looking at the ocean for the first time, I think she's a bit confused.
Once she discovered running on the beach she was happy. happy, happy!
Matthew took her for a quick run while I walked with Milton and Dixie.
Dixie found that rolling in the sand is her favorite thing. Running takes effort. Look at the cute, sandy face.
Surf, sun, and one happy pup. I think Angelina enjoyed the beach the best out of the three.
Time to head back.
Last picture of the day, which is also the last picture I took of Milton. He is missed.

Yesterday, Matthew and I had to say goodbye to one of our furbabies. Milton passed away yesterday morning of heart failure. He always had a heart murmur and he wasn't doing his best the past couple of days. We took him into work with us yesterday so we could keep an eye on him. We actually had a vet appointment for him later that morning, but his heart gave out before then and he died while we were rushing him to the vet.
He will be missed dearly and I'm glad to have many pictures that I can look back on and remember the great life he lived with us.

This past week we've been watching my brothers dog, Zelda. She is a pit bull that is about 4 months old. Here's a normal day for her here.
Wake up. Dread getting her morning medicine.
Go outside. Try to play with the backyard neighbors dog through the fence.
Reflect on ways to bug the other animals in the house.
Bug other animals in the house. That's a Dixie there.
Play with favorite toy of the day when the other animals have had enough.
Run away from the cat.
Try and be calm enough to sit next to Milton. Zelda really likes Milton.
Get some good foot snuggles in.
Frolic in the shower.
Cuddle up with favorite toy at the end of the day and get ready for bed time.

My friend, Larissa, gave me one of those as-seen-on-TV things called the Cat's Meow. It seemed sort of silly, until I put batteries in it and turned it on.

It quickly got Walter's attention.
Angelina then wanted to check it out.
Then old man Milton joined the fun.
And finally Dixie wanted to see what the fuss was about.
But that was all Dixie wanted to do. She didn't think it was any fun.
The dogs no longer try and play with the toy. Walter on the other hand is still fascinated by it and will randomly attack it even when it's not turned on. He's even started detaching the wand thing and running off with it as if it were an animal he slayed.

I got a new camera! I've been wanting to get a DSLR camera for awhile now, so I finally bit the bullet and got one, a Canon Rebel T3i. So as soon as it came in the mail I had to take pictures of my favorite test subjects, the animals. Hopefully I learn how to use it well and take some better pictures.
